Upstate firefighters are prepared to assist victims in flood areas in Florida and other southeast states caused by Hurricane Irma.

Two weeks ago the BSFD took delivery of a swift water rescue raft provided by a Firehouse Subs grant. “We took delivery just in time, expecting to go to Texas,” Ross said. “We have tested the raft in the past two weeks and we’re ready to go,” Ross said.

The BSFD swift water task force, commanded by Ross, has a list of 10 firefighters available and will be selected if and when the team is asked to respond. The response team is prepared for up to a 14-day mission.

News reports show the most damage from Hurricane in Naples and San Marco Island but the damages was not as widespread as forecasters predicted.
