Greer's Sgt. Channing "Bo" Hicks will be laid to rest today.
The funeral for Hicks is 2 p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church and burial, with full military honors, will be at Wood Memorial Park in Duncan.
Greer, Blue Ridge and Greenville put nine players each on the 39-player Region II-AAA football team.
Quez Nesbitt, who ran for over 2,000 yards and scored 34 touchdowns, and senior linebacker John Hicks, who recorded over 100 unassisted tackles, headline the all-star team for Greer.
The city of Greer is preparing today to receive native son Sgt. Channing B. (Bo) Hicks, who was killed in Afghanistan Nov.16. Hicks' body is scheduled to arrive at Stevens Aviation at 2:10 p.m. where he will be met by his family.
The Patriot Guard will escort Hicks and his family from Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport to Wood Mortuary. The procession, traveling Hwy. 14 North and turning left on E. Poinsett Street, is expected to arrive in Greer at 2:30 p.m.
Memories, tears and heartache filled the house Bo Hicks grew up.
Three generations of the Hicks family and friends had gathered there Tuesday afternoon, waiting for Army personnel who were coming to tell them about the military honors and protocol that would take Bo to his final resting place.
LaBrian Shiflet scored a game-high 27 points to lead Greer to a win over Union County in the SCA Tournament tonight at Greer High School.

Sgt. Channing B. (Bo) Hicks, 24, of Greer died Friday in Paktika province, Afghanistan.
Hicks and Spc. Joseph A. Richardson, 23, of Booneville, Ark., suffered fatal injuries when enemy forces attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device and small arms fire, according to today's announcement by the Department of Defense.
They were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.
Greer High School was evacuated as a precautionary measure for a short time this morning when a student found writing on a wall relating to an alleged bomb threat and reported it to school officials.
Greer Police Lt. Jim Holcombe said school officials made the call to evacuate the students. They returned to class at 9:35 a.m.
Greer volleyball players Shelby Garrett and Caroline Neely have been selected to the All-Region II-3A team.
Garrett, a senior, also was selected All-Region in the 2011 season. Neely is a junior.
Greer High School football fans kept waiting, and waiting, and waiting until there was no more time left to wait.
They were trying to will Quez Nesbitt, the Yellow Jackets prolific junior running back, through the first line of defense to see some of the magic he created in the first 11 games. It wasn’t to be.

During the summer Greer Head Football Coach Will Young repeatedly told his football team they were capable of having a special season. He emphasized, “team” first and working toward a common goal.
Midway into the region schedule Young said the players and coaches appeared to be on the same page. “We’ve played pretty dang good the past couple of months,” Young said. Greer has a 7-game winning streak since its 21-24 loss to Greenville Set. 14.

Riverside High School girls finished fourth in the Class 4A State Cross Country Championships today.
Allie Arsiniega, Carly Howell, Mikie Harris, Emma Spencer, Hannah Taber were team members finishing in the top five Riverside girls to earn points.

D’Anta Fleming and Emmanuel Kelly scored on electric 75- and 70-yards punt returns, respectively, and the Greer High School offense added two additional touchdowns to eliminate Seneca 28-14 tonight in a first round Class 3A state playoff game at Dooley Field.
Quez Nesbitt had a workmanlike 171 yards on 25 carries and one touchdown and quarterback Josh Gentry threw a 42-yard scoring pass to Fleming to account for all of Greer’s scoring.

Kylie Sandusky, the No. 1 singles player at Greer High School, has been selected to play in the State Singles Tennis Tournament, which will be held at Cayce Tennis Center in Columbia Nov. 9-10.
Sandusky, a sophomore, is a four-year No. 1 player for Greer. She was 11-3 in both singles and doubles this season. Sandusky is a four-year All-Region selection.
Greer plans to show Seneca it is more than a one-dimension, run-oriented offense led by junior sensation Quez Nesbitt. Greer plays Seneca at 7:30 p.m. at Dooley Field in the first round of the state 3A football championships. Greer's defense is previewed here.
It’s Spirit Rag night with the Parents Teachers Students Association distributing them free to students attending the game at each entry gate. Admission, set by the SCHSL, is $7.
