The Greer Yellow Jackets baseball team plays a Class 3A second round baseball game tonight and the girls and boys soccer teams are scheduled to complete its final region games tonight at Dooley Field.
The boys soccer game against Union County, resumes at 5:30 tonight and it will be the third day it will try to be completed. Greer and Union were tied 1-1 with 25 minutes left in the second half Thursday night when lightning and thunder stopped the game. The boys played three minutes Friday night when the same weather pattern halted the game at the 22:32 mark.
Severe lightning and rain forced postponement of the Greer boys and girls soccer games versus Union County this evening. It’s the second night in a row the teams were forced off the field because of the weather. Senior night will also be rescheduled.
The Greer boys game, tied 1-1, only played three minutes tonight before weather forced the teams indoors. The game will be restarted with 22:32 left in the second half. The girls game will be played at the conclusion of the boys game.
Kristyn Robinson of Greer recently won a first-place award, Grades 9-12, Individual Submission, in the Letters About Literature program, sponsored by the South Carolina Center for the Book and the Library of Congress, in partnership with Target Stores.
Katherine Woo, a student at Riverside Middle School, won second place, Grades 7-8.
The Greer High School girls soccer team won its first Region III-3A championship without taking the field tonight at Dooley Field.
Games with Union County were stopped during the first game between the boys teams because of lightning and thunderstorms. The games were halted at 8:05 p.m. with weather conditions unfavorable to wait any longer. South Carolina High School League rules require games to be halted for 30 minutes from the last lightning in the area.
The Greer girls home soccer game versus Union County Thursday night at Dooley Field is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start. The boys team will play at 6 p.m. with Senior Night for both teams held between games.
The girls game is the marquee contest of the evening with the Region III-3A championship at stake. The game time was changed this morning.
Woodruff defeated Greer 6-0 and plays its final regular season match Tuesday at Union County.
Greer is winless in 14 matches and Woodruff improved to 14.4.
Greer remained winless in boys tennis as Blue Ridge defeated the Yellow Jackets 7-0 today. Greer is 0-13 overall and 0-7 in Region III-3A.
Greer plays Woodruff Monday in its next match.

Jessica Gay’s style of play is exactly what Erskine women’s basketball coach Russ Gregg was seeking for his 2012 recruiting class.
That’s what he got this morning when Gay, a Greer High School basketball standout, signed a grant-in-aid with the NCAA Division II Erskine Flying Fleet. “I’ve been looking forward to this all week,” Gay, wearing an Erskine pullover, said. Gay’s family and friends attended the signing in the Alumni Room at Greer High School.

The Greenville County High School Golf Championship begins Monday at Willow Creek Country Club.
Greer and Riverside are among 15 public and private school golf teams participating. Only Chapman and Union are outside Greenville County.
