Eastside landed the Region II 3A player and coach of the year and three players on the all-region girls’ basketball team announced Monday.
Jessica Garlington is the player of the year and Eastside coach Cindy Mattos-DeHart is the coach of the year in the region.

Greer High School senior Nick Roberson signed his letter of intent to join the North Greenville University men’s soccer team Friday afternoon.
Justin Ludley has been named principal for Greer High School and will succeed retiring Marion Waters. Ludley begins his duties in the fall.
Ludley serve as assistant principal at Southside High School for the Freshman Academy. He heads Crisis Response Drills, Safety plans, the Star teacher program, and the Math and Foreign Language Departments.

The No. 9 Greer Lady Jackets were ousted by No. 6 Wren at Piedmont Thursday in a Class AAA girls playoff game, 84-45.
The Greer High School girls basketball team won its first state playoff game in five years Tuesday night.
Greer beat the Chapin Eagles, 70-52, at Greer in a first round Class AAA playoff game. The game was rescheduled from Monday night when freezing rain and hazardous roads delayed the start of the playoffs one day.

The Greer and Eastside girls first round of the state playoffs have been postponed until Tuesday at 7 p.m. Roads in Greenville County were reported becoming icy and the worse of freezing rain and sleet were scheduled for later Monday evening. Travelers Rest at Dreher is also rescheduled for Tuesday.

The Virtual Enterprise class from Greer High School won first place in three divisions – Business Card, Salesmanship, Business Plan – in the State Business Plan Competition and Southern Region Trade Show in Myrtle Beach.
The team advances to the National Business Plan Competition at Long Island University in Brooklyn, N.Y., April 17-19. The team will compete in three competitions, National Business Plan, Global Business Challenge and International Trade Show.
Thirty rising high school seniors will have the opportunity to explore manufacturing production processes and healthcare quality outcomes, to driving high-performance BMW’s.
The students will have the opportunity to apply both science and math principles using Lean and Six Sigma tools to manufacturing and healthcare situations during a two-week Academic Outreach Camp led by the University of South Carolina Upstate, BMW Manufacturing Co. of Greer and Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System (SRHS). The program is free.

Greer High School Principal Marion Waters was honored as the Educator of the Year by the Greater Greer Education Foundation Thursday night at the annual Greer Chamber of Commerce’s Award night at Embassy Suites.
Waters, 66, announced his retirement after 45 years in education at the beginning of the semester, effective at the end of the school year.
Auditions for Dollywood performers are scheduled Saturday, Feb. 20, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Chapman Cultural Center in Spartanburg. Performers must be 17-years-old.
