Free computer classes offered seniors

Free computer class for seniors is being offered by the City of Greer recreation department beginning in April.

Kay Young, noted piano teacher, will be the instructor. Classes are offered from 9 – 11 a.m. or 1 – 3 p.m. on Thursdays. There is a limit of 10 per class and four different sessions offered.

Greenville County schools cancel Thursday classes

Snow reduced virtually all the Upstate as a recreational area as schools were closed.
 

Greenville County has cancelled schools for Thursday. Spartanburg County later cancelled its classes.

Falling temperatures will bring treacherous driving conditions in the Upstate.

Miss North Greenville University to be crowned Jan. 12

Twelve young women will compete for the title of Miss North Greenville University 2918 on Friday, Jan. 12.

Contestants are Ashley Campbell, Briana Mann, Chaffee Thompson, Clera Hedrick, Faith Yeargin, Hannah Pearson, Harleigh Morrissey, Jana Sanders, Madison Morehead, Mega Patterson, Paola Martz and Tysonna Hutchison.

Riverside Middle has had some interesting visitors recently

Chad Crews presented a literacy program to 7th grade students featuring "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens.  He also presented ghost stories featuring M.R. James, who is considered to be father of the modern ghost story, which features lots of magic and mystery. 

Students in 7th grade science had a visit from PlastiVan, a national program educating students on current research and innovations and research in plastics.  Students learned about the presence of different types of plastics in their lives and conducted an experiment where they learned more about the properties of plastics.
