White, Williams are powerful 1-2 punch for Greer offense in win over Eastside

Greer won its fifth straight game and the No. 7-ranked Yellow Jackets remained unbeaten in Region 2-AAAA beating Eastside 43-20 at John Carlisle Stadium in Taylors Friday night.

Quay White and Dre Williams dazzled with long touchdown runs and averaged 13 yards per rush, and quarterback Trey Houston threw a touchdown pass and caught one to lead Greer’s scoring. The Yellow Jackets averaged 9.7 yards per play.

Williams ran for 170 yards and White added 93 yards.

Eastside quarterback Jordan Morgan gave Greer’s defense fits passing for 359 yards and two touchdowns while completing 36 of his 46 pass attempts. He was intercepted twice.

Eastside held an 8-0 lead with 4:43 left in the first quarter when White was tackled for a safety on a two-yard loss and Morgan completed a 29-yard scoring strike to Michael Gladden.

Greer came back to score 36 unanswered points to build a 36-8 lead with 9:05 left in the third quarter.

White scored on a 1-yard run for Greer’s first score with 2:58 left in the first quarter and a 93-yard kickoff return to begin the third quarter. Between those scores Williams scored on an 89-yard run, Matthew Huff completed a 32-yard TD pass to Houston and Houston ended the 5-touchdown scoring spree with a 23-yard TD pass to Alex Syheritt.

Morgan pulled Eastside within 16 points when he connected on successive scoring passes to T.J. Gist for 8 yards and Chance Pride for 36 yards.

White’s 64-yard touchdown with 4:30 left in the game ended the night’s scoring.

Greer is 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the region. Eastside is 3-4 and 0-2 in the region.

Greer plays Greenville next Friday at Sirrine Stadium and Eastside plays at Travelers Rest.
