The investigation into the shooting involving a Greer Police Department officer Wednesday night is being investigated by SLED.
The incident sent the officer and another person to the hospital Wednesday night. An update from the police department Thursday reported that the officer was treated and released from the hospital early Thursday morning and is recuperating from his injuries. The officer did not receive any gunshot wounds.The driver of the vehicle received what were described as non-life-threatening injuries and is still being treated at the hospital. Police said the officer reportedly did not receive any gunshot wounds,

Phil Smith has resigned as Riverside High School head football coach effective immediately. He coached the Warriors for five years compiling a 10-44 record including a 1-9 record, 0-5 in Region II, last year.
Smith met with Principal Andy Crowley last Wednesday to discuss the coaching job. “We talked about my future and what my goals were,” Smith said.

Detectives with the Greer Police Department located and arrested a man suspected in an attempted murder on Sunday.

Officers with the Greer Police Department responded to a reported shooting that occurred at 220 Biblebrook Drive at approximately 1:38 p.m. Sunday.

Limestone head football coach Mike Furrey will resign his position to join the coaching staff of the Chicago Bears.

James Thurn has been named the new head football coach at Blue Ridge High School. He replaces Shane Clark, who resigned after five seasons (21-33 record and four playoff appearances) to concentrate on his athletic director duties.
Thurn, 28, was offensive coordinator at Westside High School the past two years. Clark added athletic director to his duties at BRHS in 2013-2014.
Sports marketing entrepreneur and Golf Channel veteran Steve Sellery has been named Executive Director, and Mike McGovern Tournament Director of the BMW Charity Pro-Am. McGovern was former Operations Director of the tournament.
“Steve was not only the founder and CEO of a full-service experiential event marketing agency focusing on sports and entertainment, but his depth also includes his role as Director of Sports Marketing at Golf Channel and Director of Event Marketing and Partnerships at The Cliffs,” said Bob Nitto, President, BMW Charity Pro-Am. “We are confident that Steve will utilize this wealth of experience and leadership to elevate the visibility of our tournament while further maximizing the financial support we are able to offer our charities.”
BMW driving instructor Johan Schwartz drifted an all-new BMW M5 sedan 232.5 miles around a skid pad at the BMW Performance Center in Greer setting a new Guinness World Records title for the greatest distance vehicle drift in 8 hours.
Schwartz shattered the previous record by 143 miles. A second Guinness World Records title for the longest twin vehicle drift (water assisted) was also set on the same day.
