A collaboration that could help reduce communication gaps for deaf patients and their healthcare providers is scheduled at USC Upstate.

Students from USC Upstate’s health communications classes and the Mary Black School of Nursing will host a role reversal workshop with members of the deaf community from 12 – 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 1 in the Mary Black School of Nursing, room 2039 in the Health Education Complex.

'Hamilton' is making its way to Greenville

The national tour of the Broadway musical “Hamilton” will play Greenville’s Peace Center in 2018 as part of the 2018-2019 Broadway season.

Tickets become available first as part of the season subscription for the 2017-2018 Broadway season, which will be announced on March 28.

A fine dining restaurant is locating on Trade Street and will open in the second quarter.

Michelle Scruggs told GreerToday.com the tentative date for the restaurant’s opening is in the second quarter and the name has been narrowed to two.

Deshaun Watson will receive the inaugural Blanchard-Rogers South Carolina Hall of Fame award.
 

Deshaun Watson will receive the inaugural Blanchard-Rogers Award at the South Carolina Football Hall of Fame ceremonies.

The award, formerly the Collegiate Player of the Year, will be presented April 20 at the enshrinement ceremonies in Greenville. The newly renamed award is for two Heisman Trophy winners, Felix “Doc” Blanchard and George Rogers.

Jane Mills was named the Margaret Burch Educator of the Year and Brent Garrett the Sud Paget Volunteer of the Year at the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce annual dinner last Thursday at the Verdae Embassy Suites.

Mills is principal of Chandler Creek Elementary School, and Garrett is senior vice president at Citizens Building and Loan in Greer.

The Upstate is seeing an uptick in flu cases and those who have not gotten a flu shot have an opportunity to get one free.

Patewood Memorial Hospital will host a free drive-thru flu shot clinic Thursday, Feb. 23 from 4 - 6 p.m. outside of the hospital’s main entrance. People seeking the vaccine will be able to drive up to the hospital’s entrance and receive the shot while remaining in their vehicles.

North Greenville University officials celebrated the opening of its Greer campus on Thursday that houses the school’s graduate school, College of Adult Professional Studies, and its faculty, staff, and admissions counselors. It is also home to the new Graduate School of Health Science, which began offering a Master of Medical Science in Physician Assistant Medicine in January.

Bassmaster Classic returns to Upstate in 2018

Casey Ashley of Donalds won the 2015 Bassmaster Classic on Lake Hartwell with a three-day total weight of 50 pounds, 1 ounce.
 
 

The 48th annual Bassmaster Classic, the world championship of professional bass fishing will be held March 16-18, 2018, in Greenville and on Lake Hartwell at Anderson. The Bon Secours Wellness Arena will be the site of daily weigh-in ceremonies.

The fan-favorite Bassmaster Classic Outdoors Expo will be held in the 250,000-square-foot TD Convention Center March 16-18.

Greer's BMW plant is leading U.S. automotive exporter by value

A record 287,700 BMW X models were exported from the BMW Manufacturing plant in Greer in 2016.

Approximately 86 percent of the sports activity vehicles and coupes were exported through the Port of Charleston with an export value of $9.53 billion, according to data from the U.S. Department of Commerce. That makes the facility the leading U.S. automotive exporter by value.
