The Republican lawmaker, first elected to the 4th District in 2010, chairs the Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
Restaurant chain voluntarily recalls cream cheese

A fast-casual national restaurant chain has voluntarily recalled all 2- and 8-ounce cream cheese products in its U.S. bakery cafes.
Panera Bread is conducting a nationwide preemptive, voluntary recall of all varieties of the unexpired cream cheese products with an expiration date on or before 4/2/18.

The investigation into the shooting involving a Greer Police Department officer Wednesday night is being investigated by SLED.
The incident sent the officer and another person to the hospital Wednesday night. An update from the police department Thursday reported that the officer was treated and released from the hospital early Thursday morning and is recuperating from his injuries. The officer did not receive any gunshot wounds.The driver of the vehicle received what were described as non-life-threatening injuries and is still being treated at the hospital. Police said the officer reportedly did not receive any gunshot wounds,

Riverside's Smith resigns, says it's 'time to step away'

Phil Smith has resigned as Riverside High School head football coach effective immediately. He coached the Warriors for five years compiling a 10-44 record including a 1-9 record, 0-5 in Region II, last year.
Smith met with Principal Andy Crowley last Wednesday to discuss the coaching job. “We talked about my future and what my goals were,” Smith said.
New course, 4 charities designated for BMW Pro-AM

The BMW Charity Pro-Am announced a new course and the charities that will benefit from the tournament taking place May 17-20.
The Cliffs Valley will join The Furman University Golf Club and Thornblade Club to host the 2018 tournament.
Inland Port experiences 20 percent annual growth

South Carolina Ports Authority reported nine percent container volume growth in 2017 with a record-setting 2.2 million twenty-foot equivalent container units handled during the year.
Inland Port Greer handled 7,646 rail moves in December, pushing the facility's volumes to a new calendar year record of 124,817 total rail moves in 2017. Greer experienced 20.4 percent growth over its 2016 volume record of 103,639 rail moves.

A Fleetwood Mac Tribute will be performed in a stage show by Atlanta-based Rumours at The Spinning Jenny on Friday, Jan. 26.
Rumours is identified as the Southeast’s premier Fleetwood Mac tribute band. The band’s genre is 70’s, Rock, Pop and Soft Rock.
Shooting victim transported to hospital, Greer police investigating

Officers with the Greer Police Department responded to a reported shooting that occurred at 220 Biblebrook Drive at approximately 1:38 p.m. Sunday.
Officers found one victim who had suffered a gunshot wound and was transported by Spartanburg EMS to Spartanburg Regional.

Limestone coach steps down to Join Chicago Bears staff

Limestone head football coach Mike Furrey will resign his position to join the coaching staff of the Chicago Bears.
Brian Turk, Limestone’s running back coach and recruiting coordinator, will serve as the interim head coach. Turk, who came to the Saints after spending nine seasons on the staff at the University of South Carolina, will oversee all day-to-day operations heading into spring practices.

Blue Ridge football has new football coach

James Thurn has been named the new head football coach at Blue Ridge High School. He replaces Shane Clark, who resigned after five seasons (21-33 record and four playoff appearances) to concentrate on his athletic director duties.
Thurn, 28, was offensive coordinator at Westside High School the past two years. Clark added athletic director to his duties at BRHS in 2013-2014.
BMW Pro-Am names two to leadership positions

Sports marketing entrepreneur and Golf Channel veteran Steve Sellery has been named Executive Director, and Mike McGovern Tournament Director of the BMW Charity Pro-Am. McGovern was former Operations Director of the tournament.
“Steve was not only the founder and CEO of a full-service experiential event marketing agency focusing on sports and entertainment, but his depth also includes his role as Director of Sports Marketing at Golf Channel and Director of Event Marketing and Partnerships at The Cliffs,” said Bob Nitto, President, BMW Charity Pro-Am. “We are confident that Steve will utilize this wealth of experience and leadership to elevate the visibility of our tournament while further maximizing the financial support we are able to offer our charities.”
World drifting records set at BMW Greer Performance Track

BMW driving instructor Johan Schwartz drifted an all-new BMW M5 sedan 232.5 miles around a skid pad at the BMW Performance Center in Greer setting a new Guinness World Records title for the greatest distance vehicle drift in 8 hours.
Schwartz shattered the previous record by 143 miles. A second Guinness World Records title for the longest twin vehicle drift (water assisted) was also set on the same day.
