The Greer Station Vintage Christmas is Thursday through Saturday at Grace Hall.

The indoor event will benefit Saved by the Heart, a non-profit for animal rescue serving Greer. Last year’s event helped raise funds for the rescue’s veterinary, food, maintenance bills and foster program.

North Greenville continues run in playoffs, beats Tuskegee

Will Hunter threw three touchdown passes and ran for a one-yard score in North Greenville University's playoff win over Tuskegee Saturday.
 

North Greenville came out of the gate with four first quarter touchdowns to beat Tuskegee, 45-26, in the second round of the NCAA Division II Saturday in Tigerville.

NGU (9-4) will play North Alabama (9-1) in the semifinals next Saturday at a time to be announced. North Alabama beat UNC Pembroke, 41-9.

North Greenville University will play Tuskegee University in a second round NCAA Division II football playoff game Saturday at noon at Younts Stadium in Tigerville.

NGU is 8-4 that includes a four-game winning streak. The Crusaders are coming off its first round playoff victory, 27-13, at Florida Institute last Saturday.

Greer firefighters assisting in Pinnacle Mountain Fire

Greer firefighters are helping to battle the Pinnacle Mountain Fire that is threatening more than 800 structures in South Caroina and North Carolina.

The fire jumped into Pickens and Greenville counties last week and today there are 625 threatened structures in South Carolina – 523 in Greenville County and 112 in Pickens County. Officials also reported there are 171 structures threatened in Transylvania County, N.C.

Use your head to combat concussions in youth sports

With athletes of all ages taking to fields and courts, there are important steps to take in keeping young athletes safe during practice and games.

Data from U.S. Youth Soccer shows that the number of kids playing increased nearly 90 percent — with nearly 3 million children ages 7-17 playing each year — from 1990 to 2014. As soccer has risen in popularity, so has the rate on injuries — especially concussions — according to a Nationwide Children's Hospital study published recently in "Pediatrics."

Some CPW customers getting a $32.10 refund

Greer Commission of Public Works is crediting approximately 3,500 residential customers for charges they incurred in October. The average credit is $32.10.

Several years ago CPW Commissioners and management changed the monthly sewer cap of 12,000 gallons to 8,000 gallons per month May through September. Residential customers are not billed for sewer flows over 8,000 gallons.
