In the early years, Mr. Yates volunteered with the Lake Cunningham Fire Department.
Mr. Yates served in the Navy Reserves, was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Firefighters, a full time RV?er for the past twelve years and a member of Cornerstone Christian Church, Knoxville, Tennessee.

Surviving are a daughter, Sonja Lipscomb (David) of Greer; a son, Tommy Crain of Greer; two brothers, Gary Bryant of Landrum and Mike Bryant of Greer; two sisters, Linda Rogers of Travelers Rest and Carolyn Stewart of Laurens; and two grandchildren, Seth and Tori Crain.
She was also predeceased by a grandson, Austin Crain.

Edgar Massengale, resident of Oakleaf Assisted Living on Thornblade Ave., died March 2, 2016 at Greenville Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Born February 19, 1919, son of the late Oscar William and Jamie Barnett Massengale, he was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII having served in the 4TH Infantry, fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was a Purple Heart recipient.
Mr. Massengale retired from Hoechst Celanese in 1984.
He and his late wife were founding members of Southside Baptist Church where they faithfully attended until they were unable.
At the age of 93, he was the first patient in the Upstate to receive transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).

Mr. Tooke was a U.S. Navy WWII and Korean War Veteran, and was a member of the Hejaz Marching Patrol and Chairman of Tyger River Fire Department Board of Commissioners.
