Greer’s Freedom Blast is the next big event for a community-wide celebration scheduled June 28 at Greer City Hall.

The 30th Annual Family Fest broke all attendance records previously set at last year’s Freedom Blast that reportedly had 12,000 – 15,000 visitors with the Swingin’ Medallions performing. The Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce organizes the Family Fest.

The Marshall Tucker Band played to an overflow crowd of more than 16,000 at Greer City Park on Saturday night. The crowd stretched from each side of the stage in front of City Hall to beyond the City Park entrance at Cannon and Poinsett streets.

Freedom Blast will begin at 6 p.m. with a pie eating contest and other family activities at the park’s amphitheater, inflatables for children on the park’s lawn, and food vendors along the promenade.

The South Carolina National Guard provided military vehicles, weapons and other displays last year.

The first competition for Greer Idol and Teen Idol will take place, the featured entertainment and the Veterans Walk will set up the traditional fireworks display at the end of the evening.

City officials, organizers of Freedom Blast, will announce the artists headlining the event and the timetable next week.

Greer’s Independence Day celebration precedes July 4 patriotic celebrations at Greenville’s Red, White and Blue and Spartanburg’s Red, White and Boom at Barnet Bark.
