The new I-385 Northbound Collector-Distributor will open Thursday morning, Nov. 30.
Because of this change, drivers need to be aware that the new exit to I-85 North from I-385 Northbound will be shifted about one mile south of the current exit ramp and will share access to Woodruff Road.
Lt. Chad Richardson has professed his passion for his job at the Greer Police Department, serving the community for 17 years with the GPD and his love for all things Greer.
“I just simply love Greer and everything about this place,” Richardson said. “I grew up here, went to Greer High School and have seen a lot of my friends develop successful businesses and serve our community.”
NASCAR Hall of Famer and World War II veteran Bud Moore has died at the age of 92.
NASCAR announced his death Tuesday but did not give any details. Moore lived in Spartanburg.
Greer High School Principal Justin Ludley, his wife Barrett, and their oldest child James, 3, will lead the Christmas Parade through Greer on Sunday Dec. 3 at 2:30 p.m. Justin and Barrett’s 6-month old triplets (Tess, Anna, and Will) will be at home.

David Britt has been appointed to Vice President and General Manager of the South Carolina Tindall Corporation.
Britt will be working with the Spartanburg-based team to continue to drive this operation. “We are very pleased to be able to move David into this role,” said Greg Force, Tindall’s President and COO. “He has a proven track record of success at Tindall, which we are certain will continue with these additional responsibilities.”
South Pointe scored more points than any team against Greer in the Yellow Jackets’ long storied history Friday night at Dooley Field.
The Stallions were off and running and didn’t stop until South Pointe won its 25th straight victory and beat the Greer Yellow Jackets, 67-21, for the Upstate Class 4A Championship. Greer (12-2) saw its winning streak end at 11 games.
Greer has waited 14 years to get where South Pointe has been for three consecutive years – winners of the state 4A championship.
The South Pointe Stallions, unbeaten (13-0), with a 24-game unbeaten streak, play the Greer Yellow Jackets (12-1), with an 11-game win streak, Friday night at Dooley Field in a 7:30 game.

Thanksgiving is a time for family, friends and food. But it’s also a day to be especially cautious when it comes to cooking fires.
Nine percent of Americans will eat their Thanksgiving meal at a restaurant, according to a National Restaurant Association survey. That’s reason enough for restaurants to remain open and offer a fancy feast.
It’s also an opportunity for families traveling from out of town or different states, to meet midway and spend quality time while enjoying a Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings, without the bother of cleaning up.
The 26th Turkey Day Run Thursday is at Eastside High School.
The run begins at 9 a.m. and registration at 7:30 a.m., near John Carlisle Stadium on the grounds of Eastside High School at 1300 Brushy Creek Road in Taylors.

AAA Carolinas projects that 2.1 million Carolinians will journey 50 miles or more from home this Thanksgiving, with more than 7000,000 South Carolinians and 1.4 million North Carolinians traveling. This represents 3.3 percent over 2016. The Thanksgiving holiday travel period is defined as Wednesday, Nov. 22, to Sunday, Nov. 26.
The City of Greer “Railfest” was awarded a $2,500 grant as an organization as “Ones to Watch” by the South Carolina Ports Authority.
The SCPA announced $103,000 in grants to 56 charitable organizations through its annual Community Giving Program, which provides grant support in regions where SCPA operates in order to positively impact maritime commerce, economic development, environmental awareness and community outreach.
Fluor Corporation announced that a Fluor-led joint venture was selected by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) as the design-build team for the estimated $2 billion Green Line Light Rail Extension in Boston.
“Fluor is pleased to be chosen to lead the joint venture team that will oversee the design and construction of this project,” said Hans Dekker, president of Fluor’s infrastructure business line. “Our team brings an integrated solutions approach to designing and building megaprojects, a legacy of rail experience and a proven track record of delivering complex projects for our clients. Jack Murrin, the first Chief Financial Officer of the Greenville-Spartanburg Airport District, was presented a proclamation upon his retirement from the GSP Commissioners and President/CEO Dave Edwards at Monday’s commission meeting. Murrin served as VP Administration and Finance/CFO of the District from January 1999 to September 2017.
The South Carolina Municipal Finance Officers, Clerks and Treasurers Associated presented the 2017 MFOCTA Professional Achievement Award to David Seifert, Chief Financial Officer of the city of Greer. The award recognizes a Finance Officer, Clerk or Treasurer for his or her exceptional career and contributions to the profession.
Seifert has been serving in financial positions with the city of Greer since 1997 and holds CPA, CGMA and MBL Certifications. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Municipal Finance Officers, Clerks, and Treasurers Association and is active in the Business License Officers Association, Municipal Technology Association of South Carolina, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Government Finance Officers Association.
Bryn Carrier, women’s junior class president at Bob Jones Academy and resident of Greer, performed the Ralph Vaughan Williams Oboe Concerto with the Clemson University Symphony Orchestra at the Brooks Center for the Performing Arts on Nov. 14 under the direction of Dr. Andrew Levin.
Bryn earned this honor after winning the 2017 Clemson University Young Artist Concerto Competition. After submitting an application and a recording for phase one of the competition, Bryn was among seven semifinalists chosen to perform in the final audition in September. The competition was open to high school students of the upstate of South Carolina and Clemson University students. She also won $200 as the competition winner.
