Mauldin and Riverside had a slugfest in the first half and the Mavericks held on for a 44-26 victory at Mauldin Friday night.
Andrew Brown led Riverside with two touchdown passes, one each to Max Louis and Ryan Perron. Brown also scrambled for a fourth quarter touchdown and Louis added an 80-yard kickoff return.
Eastside will come into next week’s game undefeated at Greer. It will be the first time Eastside will play Greer with a better record than its next door rival.
Eastside beat Union, 48-20, Friday that concluded Spirit Week.
Greer smothered Travelers Rest Friday night, 70-3, in the teams’ Class 4A Region-II opening game at Chico Boling Stadium.

Greer Commission of Public Works sent an advisory to businesses on Trade Street that water will be turned off, tentatively, 7 – 10 a.m. Sunday and issued a boil water advisory for some businesses from Sunday to Monday.

• Hotel, parking garage coming to city
The timing and the City of Greer’s financial growth led to the pursuit of a hotel-parking garage complex and possibly more commercial/retail business.
Details for a 100-plus room city hotel, related retail properties and approximately a 300-vehicle parking garage, will be presented at Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
City Administrator Ed Driggers will present the economic development project, code-named “Kaboom”, for a first reading on council’s agenda. Council meetings begin at 6:30 p.m.

Sourdough & Co., a sandwich shop, is making the Upstate its first venture outside of its home-based California.
The key ingredient for its sandwiches and soup bowls is its sourdough bread. Greek and Italian salads are also offered.
The Thursday Afternoon Acting Group (TAAG) at the University of South Carolina Upstate is hosting an after school theatre program on Thursdays, 4-6 p.m. in the Studio Theatre. The first class is Thursday.
Registration is for students ages eight to 18. The cost is $75 for the semester-long program.
The Greer Yellow Jackets punctuated the halfway point of their regular season schedule by walloping the Woodruff Wolverines, 56-0, Friday night at Dooley Field. Greer is 4-1.
The eight touchdowns performance by Greer was distributed with six rushing and two passing, all in the first three quarters.
