The University of South Carolina Upstate announced that Dave Dickerson will join the university as head coach of the men’s basketball team.
Dickerson was a scout for the NBA’s Utah Jazz this year, spent seven years at Ohio State University as the associate head men’s basketball coach.

Bojan Sprah, 45, of Boiling Springs was identified as the person who died in the incident that occurred in the paint shop.
Ralph Ransom Burnell lived a storied life that included serving in three wars and resulted in a writing a maintenance manual for every plane in service during World War II.
Burnell retired after a 30-year career in the U.S. Navy. He also served in the Korean and Vietnam wars.

Greenville and Spartanburg BI-LO grocery stores are among six of the 94 underperforming stores that will be closed in the Southeast. Southeastern Grocers, LLC, parent company of the stores, is filing for Chapter 11.
Southeastern Grocers reported it has entered into a restructuring support agreement and will voluntarily file prepackaged Chapter 11 cases to efficiently execute its restructuring. Officials reported in a news release they expect the company to emerge through financial restructuring within the 90 days.
A social media post that referenced an alleged possible school shooting at Riverside High School resulted in two students charged after they lied about it to get out of school, the Greer Police Department reported Thursday.
The investigation into the threat found that two students at Riverside Middle School had fabricated the story.
Stephen Hawking, the British physicist whose scientific achievements, decades-long battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease, and best-selling book “A Brief History of Time” helped make him the most celebrated scientist since Albert Einstein, has died, his family told the Associated Press. He was 76.
Considered by many to be the world's greatest living scientist, Hawking was also a cosmologist, astronomer, mathematician and author of numerous books including the landmark “A Brief History of Time,” which has sold more than 10 million copies.
A Lyman woman received a 15-year prison sentence Monday and 5 years of probation after she admitted to driving drunk and causing a wreck that claimed the life of one person and critically injured a second victim.
Lauren C. Smith, 32, pleaded guilty to felony driving under the influence with a death and felony driving under the influence with great bodily injury. Circuit Judge Keith Kelly issued a 25-year prison sentence that was suspended to 15 years of service and 5 years of probation.

Byrnes finished second in the overall championship at the regulation drill competition last weekend at the Pendleton High School JROTC and Lights of Hope competitions.
