During this time, she met the love of her life Charles Harrill who was at the University of Tennessee. They fell in love and married on December 22, 1956. She adored "Charlie", and he adored Nelma. They had been married for 52 years.
Nelma was a godly mother who loved her children and grandchildren. She was all about family. This was her greatest passion.
Nelma loved nature, flowers, the outdoors and especially the Smokey Mountains. She loved hiking and hiked many trails around Gatlinburg. She especially loved the Smokies when the Rhododendron were blooming, the cardinals flying and when the leaves were changing colors.
She also loved cleaning: everyday cleaning, spring cleaning and picking up specs on the floor.

She especially loved reading and studying the Bible and took every opportunity to learn more about the Bible.
The most important thing in Nelma's life was Jesus Christ. She trusted Christ when David, her oldest son, was an infant knowing she needed God's strength to raise her family. She believed that Jesus Christ died on the cross for her sins and rose from the dead. This transformed her life.
