Riverside Middle School will host an informational session in the RMS media center on Wednesday, Nov. 5 from 12-1 p.m. for anyone interested in the Mentor Greenville program.
Mentor Greenville pairs members of the community with students who would benefit from a positive adult role model.

Riverside plays at Wade Hampton on Friday in a Region II-4A game. A win by Riverside will earn the Warriors a state playoff berth with one game remaining.

Coaches and the selection committee for the North-South all-star game gave a double thumbs down to Greer area football players.
Unbeaten and No. 4-ranked Greer High School may have received the ultimate snub as seniors on the top-ranked defense were left off the team scheduled Dec. 13 in Myrtle Beach.
Riverside’s girls tennis upset T.L. Hanna, the top seed in the region, 4-3, in the second round of the state Class 4A playoffs Monday at The Cardinal Tennis Club in Anderson.
Riverside, No. 2 seed, plays the winner of Dutch Fork/Boiling Springs on Wednesday in the quarterfinals at a site to be determined.
Riverside continued its run to the Class 4A playoffs with a memorable Homecoming victory over J.L. Mann Friday night at the Reservation.
The Warriors beat the Patriots 37-7 and along the way managed to hit some key marks:
Riverside High School ranked 65th out of 3,000 students in The National Speech and Debate Association's Top 100 schools in the nation for the 2013-2014 academic year.
"These students and coaches have demonstrated outstanding participation and achievement in speech and debate activities, said Executive Drector J. Scott Wunn. "We are pleased to honor them for their hard work and dedication and wish them continued success in the coming season."
The Blue Ridge Corps of Cadets and Greer G Force marching bands will compete Saturday in the state championship Class 3A competition at Batesburg-Leesville High School.
Blue Ridge won the Upper State championship last week and Greer finished fifth.
The Pride of Riverside Marching Band qualified for the state championships. It is the first time in the school’s history a Riverside High School marching band advanced to the state finals.
Riverside put itself smack in the middle of the hunt for a Class 4A playoff berth with its 26-7 victory at Mauldin in a Region II game Friday night.
“Tonight we put ourselves in position for the playoffs and we can control our destiny,” Riverside Head Coach Phil Smith said.
Greer plays Chapman Friday night and will try to continue its unbeaten streak with an 8th straight victory. The game is at Dooley Field and begins at 7:30 p.m.
Emerald beat Chapman, 55-22, last week for the Panthers only region defeat. Greer beat Emerald 28-13 in Week 4.
Rick Floyd, the Internet Security Specialist for Greenville County Schools, conducted an internet safety assembly for Riverside Middle students.
He talked to the students about online privacy, being aware of what is shared online and cyber bullying.
As part of Riverside Middle School PTSA’s fundraiser, students duct taped Principal Malone, Assistant Principal Batman, as well as Simon Hong of TD Bank to the wall.
Students got to take a look on their way out of school. Top-selling students also got to participate in a Game Day.
Thirteen students from Riverside Middle School were selected along with five alternates for the Upstate Region Orchestra. This is the first step toward All State Orchestra, and auditions for that will begin in January.
Middle school students from Greenville, Anderson, Oconee, and Pickens counties competed for spots in the orchestra on Oct. 4.
We're not sure Warrior Nation will be pleased with this bit of news.
Riverside High School or New Riverside High School are two of the three final names for a planned high school in Bluffton County, in the lower part of the state. That's right. That could lead to a designation of Riverside Upstate and Riverside Low Country.
The Riverside High School girls cross country team is ranked 8th in the Nation. The team was also named Milesplit National team of the week for the week of Sept. 22
RHS holds College Application Day
Riverside speech and debate students placed first at their first tournament of the season Oct. 4 at the Twelfth North Mecklenburg Jimmy K. Poole Viking Classic.
The team won first place in Sweepstakes, which is first place out of the 38 schools who participated.
Betcha Riverside created a stir on No. 2-ranked Byrnes’ sidelines Friday night.
Riverside quarterback Ryan Cerino scored on a 1-yard run with 8:51 left in the second quarter for a touchdown and a 7-6 lead over heavily favored Byrnes at Nixon Field.

The Pride of Riverside Marching Band finished fourth in Class 5 at the Irmo Palmetto Esprit de Corps Invitational last Saturday. The Warriors, performing Heracleion, earned an excellent rating and finished seventh overall among 24 bands competing.
It was Riverside’s second competition of the season, finishing third last week at the Boiling Springs Invitational.
