Mark Khoury likes Abbott’s Frozen Custard so much he bought a franchise and is bringing it to Greer.

Khoury is visiting family in Rochester, N.Y., this week, home of Abbott’s, and making a daily run, sometimes more than once, for the frozen treat he grew up eating.

The development, at I-85, Garlington Road and Pelham Road, will feature a multifamily development, office/professional uses, and restaurants, according to an announcement by Central Realty Holdings, a real estate investment company.

Belk sold, no store closings, layoffs announced

None of the 297 Belk stores are planning to be closed, according to a company spokeswoman.
 

Belk Inc. announced it would be acquired by Sycamore Partners, a private equity firm based in New York, in a transaction valued at about $3 billion including debt. Sycamore, in its biggest ever deal, will pay $68 in cash for each share of Belk.

The Charlotte, N.C.-based department store chain, operates 297 stores throughout the South, including one in Greer.

As the Professional Catering owner was introduced to the diners at Larkin's Sawmill following his quarterfinal match in the Competition Dining Series on Wednesday, he circled the room, high-fiving patrons and fellow chefs with an ever-present smile.

"When people come to me with that energy and that 'well done chef’, I fulfilled that need they needed for that evening," said Norton. "It's just cut and dry like that."

Vintage Market comes to City Park on Oct. 17

The Vintage Market at the Park will be held for the fifth year on Oct. 17 in Greer City Park.

A line of severe thunderstorms battered the upstate on Thursday afternoon, with parts of the Greer area sustaining damage.

The storms began to roll through about 3:30 p.m. and damaged power lines and toppled trees.
