All eight 419-foot towers of the iconic New New York Tappan Zee Bridge project has been put in place by a Fluor-led team.

Construction of the eight sleek, chamfered-designed concrete towers – four on both the eastbound and westbound spans – began in the late summer of 2015. The towers will support the 2,230-foot cable-stayed main span. The project team will install a total of 192 stay cables ranging in length from 190 feet to 623 feet.

The withdrawal of an injunction to stay Greer City Council’s second reading of an ordinance to sell the former Allen Bennett Hospital nearly 10-acre site has set up a spirited showdown at 5 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall for ownership that is separated by $250,000.

“The city now admits that it is free to take the best offer,” said a spokesperson for JBM Leasing LLC. “We agree. We will be at the meeting Tuesday night, prepared to show that JBM’s offer is the best.”

Magna bringing 480 jobs to $29 million seat assembly plant in Spartanburg County

Magna is building a new facility in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, to supply seats to BMW. The new plant is expected to be operational by June 2017 and could employ up to 480 people over the next four years.
 

Magna International, a BMW supplier, is adding its fourth South Carolina plant that will also bring 480 jobs in the next four years.

The new, $29 million, 230,000-square-foot facility, scheduled to open in June 2017, will be built on a 20-acre site in the Tyger River Industrial Park on Highway 290 and Anderson Mill Road.

About 100 BMW cars assembled at the BMW Manufacturing facility in Greer were damaged Sunday when a Norfolk Southern train derailed in Jenkinsville in Fairfield County.

The train was about 85 miles from Greer on its way to Charleston when two locomotives derailed on Highway 215 about 3 p.m.
