Here's one of the best kept secrets for travelers: hospital cafeterias are open to feed staff, patients and visitors and most often have turkey with the trimmings. The Dogwood Cafe,with Chef Sam Kleckley, at Pelham Medical Center and the cafeteria at Greer Memorial Hospital will be open. Both cafeterias are routine stops during the week and Sundays, too.

Jim Benson was awarded an honorary degree at the Greenville Technical College commencement exercises last week.
Benson established a business in Greer at the age of 17, hauling used cars from Pennsylvania back to Greer to be sold. With the money he earned, he established a used car lot, and before he was 21, established a Chrysler franchise. Today, that one dealership has turned into seven, an amazing success story that began in Greer.

Fluor-led project team completes all eight 419-foot towers for iconic New York bridge

All eight 419-foot towers of the iconic New New York Tappan Zee Bridge project has been put in place by a Fluor-led team.
Construction of the eight sleek, chamfered-designed concrete towers – four on both the eastbound and westbound spans – began in the late summer of 2015. The towers will support the 2,230-foot cable-stayed main span. The project team will install a total of 192 stay cables ranging in length from 190 feet to 623 feet.

Greer Memorial Hospital staff keeps thumping its chest as one of the most decorated hospitals in South Carolina for patient care.
GMH was designated Wednesday only the fourth hospital in South Carolina to earn Magnet Nursing recognition by the American Nursing Credentialing Center / Magnet Commission. The ANCC is an affiliate of the American Nurses Association.

Spirited showdown expected at City Council to decide sale of former hospital site

The withdrawal of an injunction to stay Greer City Council’s second reading of an ordinance to sell the former Allen Bennett Hospital nearly 10-acre site has set up a spirited showdown at 5 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall for ownership that is separated by $250,000.
“The city now admits that it is free to take the best offer,” said a spokesperson for JBM Leasing LLC. “We agree. We will be at the meeting Tuesday night, prepared to show that JBM’s offer is the best.”

A lawsuit has been filed against the City of Greer by JBM Leasing LLC challenging the right of the City to make an alleged secret deal for the former Allen Bennett Memorial Hospital campus.
Mayor Rick Danner, City Administrator Ed Driggers and Executive Director of Greer Development Corporation Reno Deaton were also named as defendants.
Magna bringing 480 jobs to $29 million seat assembly plant in Spartanburg County

Magna International, a BMW supplier, is adding its fourth South Carolina plant that will also bring 480 jobs in the next four years.
The new, $29 million, 230,000-square-foot facility, scheduled to open in June 2017, will be built on a 20-acre site in the Tyger River Industrial Park on Highway 290 and Anderson Mill Road.

Trail derailment damages about 100 Greer manufactured BMWs

About 100 BMW cars assembled at the BMW Manufacturing facility in Greer were damaged Sunday when a Norfolk Southern train derailed in Jenkinsville in Fairfield County.
The train was about 85 miles from Greer on its way to Charleston when two locomotives derailed on Highway 215 about 3 p.m.
