Senator John McCain died Saturday after battling brain cancer. He was 81.
McCain was with his wife Cindy and their family when he passed in the afternoon, a family statement said.

Drivers can expect a detour of I-85 southbound on Friday night. The detour is needed to continue setting girders for one of the new bridge structures associated with the I-85/385 Gateway Project. I-85 Southbound will be detoured at the Exit 51 ramp to the collector/distributor lanes. From there, motorists can follow signing to either I-385, Woodruff Road or back to I-85 Southbound.

A Taylors man received a life prison sentence without parole for shooting a Spartanburg County woman to death.
Lance Antonio Brewton, 39, was found guilty of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime at the conclusion of a three-day jury trial. Brewton shot 24-year-old Natalie Rae Niemitalo to death on Sept. 25, 2017 at her Zimmerman Road home.

An inmate at the Greer Detention Center died Tuesday morning, according to a release from the Greer Police Department.
Greenville County EMS was called to the detention center at 2:55 Tuesday morning in reference to an inmate in medical duress. After the arrival, Greenville County EMS pronounced the inmate deceased and the Greenville County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene.
The Greer Police Department is seeking assistance in identifying an unknown female.
The picture of the white female is suspected of using a stolen SC license plate (PCF428) from a business in the City of Greer on 7/16/18. The unknown female is believed to have placed the stolen license plate on a newer model Jeep Cherokee.
Alfred O. “Red” Johnson served as Postmaster of Wellford Post Office for 26 years. He was active in the National Association of Postmasters, and served as president of the South Carolina Chapter for one year.
“Red”, as he became known since his birth in 1920, died Wednesday in Lyman. He was married 75 years to his beloved wife, Elsie.

With a large majority of young church-going South Carolinians trending toward churches offering more services and convenience and a decline in overall church attendance, more and more small churches are struggling or closing altogether.

NEWPORT, R.I. – J.L. Mann Academy graduate and Greenville native Ensign Andrew Howard is serving with the U.S. Navy as a surface warfare officer (SWO), charged with leading the bridge watch team and ensuring safety of navigation on one of the Navy’s modern warships.
Howard completed the Junior Officer of the Deck (JOOD) course at Surface Warfare Officers School (SWOS) Aug. 3.
