More than 90 entries have been announced for Sunday's Greer Christmas Parade.
The star of the annual parade, titled An International Christmas, is typically Santa Claus. Santa will have some extra help this year.
Lonnie “Gee” McGee will be at the parade taking his usual place leading the Greer High School Marching Band.
The parade route begins at 2:30 p.m. at the Clock Restaurant, 603 Poinsett Street, moves to Main Street and turns left, ending at the J. Harley Bonds Center.
The weather forecast is for mostly sunny skies, parade time temperature about 60 degrees with zero chance of rain. Winds are reported to be six miles per hour.
“I am so happy Gee is coming and have been hoping he would be able to make it here,” Caroline Robertson, Executive Director of Greer Relief & Resources. This is the third year Greer Relief is the organizer and beneficiary.
The Charles Lea Center (CLC) partnered with the Greer Police Department to facilitate Gee’s travel to Greer. “They (CLC) have been great helping Gee get here,” Sgt. Chad Richardson of the Greer Police Department told GreerToday.com.
“It takes all our resources to work the parade and they (CLC) have been very nice to bring Gee to Greer,” Richardson said. “They (CLC) are bringing Gee Sunday morning, he will stay with his aunt Sunday night and we will take him back Monday morning,” Richardson said.
