To some, the Labor Day weekend means the end of summer. To those of us, in the south, it means the beginning of Apple Festival season.
The first festival takes over the streets of Hendersonville, N.C., this weekend. Home to 20 apple farmers, Hendersonville has a charming small downtown atmosphere. It’s even better with the streets lined with craft and food vendors and activities for children.
Being the host for ESPN's College GameDay on Saturday means there will undoubtedly be a lot of tailgating going on before the 8 p.m. Georgia at Clemson kickoff. GameDay will be aired 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Whether it is your game of the week or not, I find it interesting to read about other fun and sometimes weird traditions that teams practice when tailgating.

My son, Jonah, really liked how the gallery begins with the locomotives moving.
Did you know there are railroad traffic controllers just like those at airports? I saw first hand the complexity of their jobs when, within 30 minutes, two long Norfolk Southern trains full of containers passed within feet of me at the Inland Port. One was headed east and the other west – on the same track.

Next time you peruse postcards that adorn the shelves in Mast General Store, Wilsons, local state parks, and Palmetto Moon think of Steven Faucette.
Years after building a beautiful portfolio Steven began selling his work with a few matted prints and progressed to postcards, note cards, posters and other souvenir items. His love for landscape and nature photography took a big jump in 2005 when he started selling his work on postcards.
