Bridal Show features interactive ceremony and events

Lauren Kingstro knows all about the excitement leading up to the wedding day. She married Paul Kingstro on Aug. 18 last year. The reception was held at The Davenport on Trade Street. Krystal Grant provided GreerToday.com with the wedding photo of Lauren. 

The Greer Station Association and its vendors request the honor of your presence at their Bridal Show on Saturday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Greer City Hall Events Hall.

Guests will attend interactive events – ceremony, cocktails and reception –  with vendors showcasing their talents and services. A bride and groom will be featured with guests invited to follow them through the ceremony, cocktails and reception venues or visit the hall in any sequence. All staff will be dressed in formal attire.

Lakes Robinson, Cunningham restrictions being reviewed

You could be seeing sculls soon on Lake Robinson and Lake Cunningham.

Sculls may soon be coasting along Lake Robinson and Lake Cunningham.

John Carroll asked commissioners of the Greer Commission of Public Works today to consider permitting the use of row boats on the lakes managed by the CPW. Carroll was specifically asking for permission to use sculls (rowing shells) which can be up to 27-foot long.

Greer Relief gets Christmas cheer; Roses for Relief next

Kendra Kemp, president of the Greer Jaycees, presented a $1,000 check Thursday  to Caroline Robinson, Executive Director of Greer Relief. The proceeds were from the 2011 Jaycees Christmas Parade.

It was Christmas in February for Greer Relief when the Greer Jaycees presented a $1,100 check from the proceeds of the 2011 Christmas Parade.  Kendra Kemp, president of the Greer Jaycees, presented the check Thursday  to Caroline Robinson, Executive Director of Greer Relief. The Jaycees welcome guests to their meetings at 7 p.m. on every third Thursday at His Vineyard on Arlington.

Rose for Relief St. Patrick's Celebration is Greer Relief's next big event, scheduled on March 17 from 7 p.m. to midnight at 317 S. Buncombe Road. A silent auction, live band, Irish menu and bar will be part of the program.

2012 Miss Greater Greer Teen Sydney Sill reflects on her past two weeks and her upcoming performance in

2012 Miss Greater Greer Teen Sydney Sill has had a non-stop schedule since the week she competed in the Greer pageant. Sydney talked with GreerToday.com between her ride from Byrnes to Greer for “Hairspray” rehearsals. She was upbeat, laughing and looking forward to performing in her first theatre production outside of school. Sydney was the second runner-up (Miss Lyman) in the 2011 Miss South Carolina Teen competition. She will compete in the 2012 Miss South Carolina pageant July 10-14 in Columbia.

Tippin's concert will provide maximum viewing

Spectators at the Greer Family Fest will be afforded a more advantageous view with the stage placed at the circular drive at the entrance of City Hall.

The stage Aaron Tippin will perform on at the 2012 Village Hospital Greer Family Fest will be located at the picturesque circular drive entrance to City Hall.

"This location affords more people to see Aaron Tippin perform and we're anticipating the biggest crowd ever to attend the festival," Mark Owens, Greer Chamber of Commerce Events Coordinator, said.

Ryan Storrie remembered as everybody's best friend

Ryan Storrie, 29, lived to open a restaurant that had personality and character in the way food was cooked and presented. He saw the fulfillment of his dream come true. Sadly, it was too short-lived.

Ryan Storrie was the best friend of more people than he ever could have imagined. 

"Ryan had a ton of people say 'he's my best friend' because he was everybody's best friend," Tim Kearns said. Kearns and Storrie were best friends and opened Ember, a downtown Greer restaurant, on New Year's Eve.

Movies, video games, graphic novels fuel interest in comics

Rob Young, owner of Borderlands, stands among his comics, T-shirts, toys and gaming, kingdom. The 5,000 square foot store has become the largest “geek” shop in the Upstate.

Upon entering this comic book store haven, you notice the lived-in look. Adorned with posters, T-shirts, and toys, it can be intimidating at first. There is a method to the madness, however, and half the fun is learning the language of this foreign land. Comics on the right, games on the left, this is a niche shop reminiscent of record stores that still specialize in hi-fi, but the natives are welcoming  – in fact, they can't wait to talk off about their passions. This is Borderlands Comics and Games.

Opening in 1984 as Heroes Aren’t Hard to Find, the name was changed in 1995 when Stan Reed became the owner. The store garnered a reputation as arguably the best one-stop shop for comic books and gaming in the Upstate.

Rockin' Tuesday Blues Jam at Rhythm & Brews

Last week at the Rockin’ Tuesday Blues Jam at Rhythm & Brews in Greer, it was like "The Last Waltz" of blues jams with musicians on and off the stage all night long. It’s hard to believe it was only our third jam. And there’s no telling what the fourth one will be like tonight.

Let me set the stage. It’s 8 p.m. on January 31. Tuesday night.
