Greer getting steady diet of visits from firms enticed by Inland Port

A track switcher was delivered by Norfolk Southern to the Moore Street rail line. The switcher will be used to lead container cars to rails for removal or storage.
 

The Inland Port “Effect” is taking aim at Greer.

During a presentation in Greenville last week Jim Newsome, President and CEO of the South Carolina Ports, said that Greer Economic Development has had 158 inquiries with 29 resulting in visits, since July last year.

ZF adding 450 jobs with $175 million expansion

Germany-based ZF Group reported it will spend $175 million on expansion and will create 450 additional jobs at its transmission plant in Laurens County, boosting the plant's work force to 1,650 by 2016.

The company made the announcement Friday at its 950,000-square-foot Gray Court plant, which it plans to expand by 450,000 square feet. The third expansion in four years will bring the total investment to $600 million in a plant covering 1.4 million square feet.

Greer Trading Post is developing its character with the upfit

The uncovering of the Snowdrift Shortening advertisement had Nathan and Jessica rethink how they would be setting up the Greer Trading Post.

The Greer Trading Post, scheduled to open in August, is adding some elegance with its historic interior.

Business owners Nate and Jessica Monroe are transforming the former vacant building into a showcase that features historic signage dating to the early 1900s with the elegance of chandeliers and a contemporary interior. Ceiling fans have been installed and the painting was all but completed today. Old farmer cabinets are in the break room and the wood will have a rustic wood stain.

Finigan's gift of paying it forward was doubled by CPW

Pamela Finigan’s act of paying it forward was doubled before it reached the benefactor.

Finigan won $100 from Greer Commission of Public Works in the utility’s monthly eBill promotion. She opted to donate the money to Greer Relief and thus it was doubled to $200 by CPW with its Caring People Working Together initiative with the non-profit.

CPW approves $85,000 bid to relocate water line at Inland Port

Greer Commission of Public Works reported all gas, water and sewer lines have been capped along Moore Street. All the houses acquired by the South Carolina Port Authority have been razed and removed.

Greer Commission of Public Works approved an $85,255.90 bid to Howard Construction of Greer for relocating a water line from 11th Street to East Avenue at the South Carolina Inland Port in Greer.

The project will include encasing a portion underneath the railroad spur that will run parallel to the Norfolk Southern track. High-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe will be used except for iron ore casing that crosses under the track.  The project is expected to be completed within the next five weeks, Randy Olson, Greer City Operations Manager, said.

$5 million Southwest investment shows a big payoff for GSP

The $120 million GSP terminal improvement program, Wingspan, continues with steel girders in place that will anchor the terminal's expansion adjacent to the daily parking site.

The nearly $5 million investment Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport provided Southwest Airlines in incentives produced a 10-fold increase in local income and projects revenue to more than $25 million by 2014, according to a report presented to GSP commissioners today.

Strong demand for X3 helps BMW to highest six-month sales

The X3, produced at the BMW Manufacturing Co. plant in Greer, had sales climb to 77,959 vehicles in the first half year compared to 74,099, plus 5.2 percent in 2012.

With demand of the Greer-manufactured X3 remaining strong, BMW Group reported its highest sales for the first six months of a year, with a total of 954,521 vehicles delivered worldwide, an increase of 6.0 percent over the same period last year (900,566). Sales in June also reached an all-time high with 184,489 vehicles sold worldwide last month, an increase of 6.9 percent over the previous year (172,528).

Langston closed on deal setting up 88-townhome community

Chuck Langston closed on a 12.98-acre parcel that will be developed into Riverside Commons, an 88-townhome community across from Riverside High School.

Chuck Langston of Langston-Black Realty represented the Greene family with the sale of their 12.98 acres for the purpose for an 88-townhome community, Riverside Commons, across from Riverside High School.

Mark III Properties bought the site at East Suber and Hammett Bridge Road and the property was annexed into the city on April 18.
