Bullocks Barber Shop, at 225 Trade Street, has been closed since Bullock had a pre-dawn heart attack at home on Jan. 20. A sign on the door was placed signaling customers he would be back at work Monday, as usual.

Council awards Benson former hospital site, taxpayers are out $400,000, Mayor suggests legal challenge

Greer City Council approved an amended offer for the approximately 10-acre site at the corner of Wade Hampton Boulevard and Memorial Drive in its second reading of the ordinance Tuesday night.

The Department of Defense announced Friday the formation of the Advanced Robotics Manufacturing Institute, a project bringing together 84 industry partners, 35 universities, and 40 other groups in 31 states.

Goals for this $253 million project aimed at creating 510,000 new manufacturing jobs include increasing worker productivity by 30 percent and making robots more accessible to small and medium-sized businesses.

The South Carolina Inland Port Greer handled a record 103,639 rail lifts in 2016, an increase of 38 percent over the previous calendar year, reported the South Carolina Ports Authority.

That means the inland port averaged 8,886 rail moves a month.

The Greer Police Department is turning to greater Greer citizens for assistance in the identification of a subject involved in an armed robbery that took place Tuesday around 8:30 p.m. at the Dollar General at 14165 East Wade Hampton Boulevard.

The subject, described by police as an older white male, with a black ball cap, black jacket and blue jeans entered the store carrying a silver handgun.
