The Rebuild Upstate Board has elected its 2018 officers to help guide the Upstate nonprofit that has repaired and rehabilitated more than 600 homes of low-income residents in the past decade.
Steven Edward Buckingham, a local attorney, will serve as chairman, John Boyanoski will serve as vice-chair, and Chris Manley will serve as secretary.

The Carolina Panthers announced Monday that Tina Becker has been named Chief Operating Officer, with full control of the day-to-day management of the organization, amid allegations against team owner Jerry Richardson.
“These have been some of the most difficult days of my 19 years with the Panthers, but I am lifted up by the strong resolve and the commitment our employees have shown to this organization,” Becker said in a story posted on Panthers.com.

Jim Benson will be honored at the National Automobile Dealers Association’s 2018 NADA Show in Las Vegas in March as one of 47 nominees for the TIME Dealer of the Year.
Benson, 81, is South Carolina’s representative of the automobile industry’s most prestigious and highly coveted honors. Recipients are among the nation’s most successful auto dealers who also demonstrate a long-standing commitment to community service.
The Greer Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association received a $3,000 grant to help fund the summer Youth Police Academy for middle school students.
The grant, from CresCom Bank employees from its foundation, will help fund overall expenses for the program, which introduces middle school students to police operations, team building and leadership skills. Separate two-week camps are offered for males and females.

Virgil Cannon was a caring man with a large extended family that included his many employees and customers at Cannon’s Restaurant.
A memorial service has been scheduled for Virgil Cannon Saturday, Dec. 9 at 3 p.m.
