January 31, 2015 - June Lindsey Stokes, 94, widow of Percy Olan Stokes, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 31, 2015.

A native of Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late William Green Lindsey and Montie Bishop Lindsey.

Mrs. Stokes was a homemaker and a faithful member of Fews Chapel United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years.

Richard Lewis Poole

January 25, 2015 - Richard "Dick" Lewis Poole, 81, of 6 Glencreek Drive, died January 25, 2015 at his home.

A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of the late William L. and Hazel Hartzke Poole, he was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of First Presbyterian Church, Greer.

Dick?s grandfather, Roy Poole, was instrumental in sparking his interest in working with his hands. Roy took him with him, on school vacations and Saturdays, to his job sites as a plasterer. Dick used those skills and many more from books he read to construct decks and garages, do rewiring, and performed all other tasks needed in every home we owned.

Roy also took him fishing off a pier on the Atlantic Ocean.

His Aunt Margaret Poole encouraged him to continue his education after high school and provided funds for his first two years at Penn State University.

Dick started a high school group of Habitat for Humanity Volunteers in Athens, OH and continued volunteering for Habitat after retiring to SC.

His work years were all spent in education at the following: University of Buffalo, The Ohio State University, National College of Education in Illinois, Ohio University School of Osteopathic Medicine and Athens High School, Athens, OH.

Harriett Posey Garrett Beam

January 13, 2015 - Harriett Posey Garrett Beam, died January 13, 2015, Loving mother, faithful wife, and trusted teacher/counselor/mentor, died peacefully surrounded by her family the way that she had expressed. With no fear and only knowledge of those she would soon see again.

After graduating from the University of Alabama she taught English and was a school counselor at Thompson High School, Siluria, Alabama. There she began laying the groundwork for a life to be remembered by all who knew her.

Upon retirement she continued to live and inspire others in a life that had an impact that spanned from Alabaster, Alabama to Greenville, South Carolina.

Her wishes were to be celebrated and the good times remembered at a time when most would mourn. Harriett was one that could only be described as someone who loved life and all of God's many beautiful creations.

She was the rainbow's rainbow, who's infectious smile and hugs that will always be remembered as a "warm and loving embrace, where the sincerity, warmth, and love" were without question.

Mr. Pickens was a recipient of Greenville County Proclamation Day.
