Allie Lena Howell McDade

June 28, 2014 - Allie Lena Howell McDade, 97, widow of George Washington "G.W." McDade, passed away on June 28, 2014 at St. Francis Eastside.

A native of Spartanburg County, daughter of the late Herbert and Mary Moon Howell, she retired from Conestee Mill and Byrd Furniture Co., was a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church and DAV Ladies Auxiliary.

Mrs. McDade overcame many health challenges, was well loved by many extended family and friends and was an inspiration to all who knew her. Her life inspired us, her loved sustained us and her memory will be a shining light forever in our hearts.

Margaret Ann Vick Balding

June 27, 2014 - Surrounded by her loved ones in the family home, Margaret Ann Vick Balding went home to her heavenly Father on June 27, 2014. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family, friends, and many supporters carried her through her valiant fight with breast cancer.

She was born in High Point, NC, on December 18, 1942, the oldest daughter of James and Virginia Vick.

A loving devoted wife, Mother, and talented homemaker, she will be most remembered as being a woman of strong faith with a compassionate and humble spirit. Throughout her life, she maintained a sweet and honest demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many who remain changed by her Christian witness of constant nurturing love and faith.

Her signature gift of joy, shown through her constant smiling, laughter, and joking around, will never be forgotten.

After graduating from Travelers Rest High School, Margaret married her high school sweetheart, Jerry, and together they lived a true love story: married 51 years, raising 3 children.

Possessing a true servant's heart, she faithfully cared for family and friends through skills which varied from delicious cooking/ baking from scratch to cake decorating, sewing, and crafting.

A woman of faith and the heart of the Balding family, Margaret shaped their spirituality by her tireless Christian example, and also through various prayer groups and church activities.

She went to Drones Business College and also worked as a Secretary to the Dean at North Greenville College.

With a real zest for life, Mrs. Balding loved to draw, read, pray, sew, entertain, and picnic, especially with her grandchildren. She was a faithful member of Praise Cathedral Church of God in Greer.

Hendrix James Bennett

June 16, 2014 - Hendrix James Bennett, 97, died June 16, 2014 at Ashlan Village.

A native of Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late John Henry and Lydia Naomi Hendrix Bennett. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1933 and served in WWII.

He was employed by Lyman Printing and Finishing working as a supervisor in the sewing room for 40 years.

He was a very special person and loved by all who knew him. He was an avid gardener; his specialties were his roses, azaleas and his vegetables which he shared with everyone.

He was a great lover of Jimmy Rodgers music and loved reading western books written by Zane Grey. Mr. Bennett was a member of Liberty Hill United Methodist Church.

Mr. Sandlin was of the Baptist faith.

J. William (Bill) Burnett

June 7, 2014 - J. William (Bill) Burnett, 85, of 6 Peachtree Lane, passed away June 7, 2014 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.

Born in Inman, SC, he was the son of the late Thomas Morgan Burnett and Ruth Barton Burnett.

He was retired from AT&T with 32 years of service.

He received a Master of Science degree from The University of North Carolina, a BA degree from Furman University, and a PHD candidate at Texas Tech University.

He graduated from John Dela Howe High School in McCormick, SC where he was an outstanding baseball and basketball player. He was an outstanding bowler and won two national tournaments and was inducted in the North Carolina Bowling Hall of Fame. He participated in 41 National USBC Tournaments.

He served 5 years in the military during the Korean War and was a member of Wake Forest University Baptist Church.

Following his illness he planned to join Washington Baptist Church, Greer.
