Miles Elliott Bruce

May 31, 2015 - Miles Elliott Bruce, 83, of Greer passed away Sunday, May 31, 2015 at McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren.

Born July 11, 1931, to Edgar and Genelle Dobson Bruce, Miles was a lifelong resident of Greer.

He graduated from Greer High School in 1949, then went on to major in Arts and Sciences at Clemson University.

A natural born leader, he served as the University?s Student Body President.

Upon graduation, Miles received a regular commission from the U.S. Army.

He spent three years serving in Korea and Missouri as an ROTC instructor. Discharged from regular duty in 1956, Miles remained in the Army Reserves for 28 years, earning the rank of full colonel prior to retirement.

Miles was a salesman for Richtex Corporation for 35 years. He served his community in numerous ways, as a little league coach, as president of the Greer Peach Festival, and as an officer with the Chamber of Commerce.

He was a lifetime member of the Greer Lions Club.

Miles was a loyal member of IPTAY for 64 years. He was consistently among the top representatives, always promoting the university and his Tigers.

A lifelong member of Greer First Baptist Church, Miles was a faithful servant of the Lord. He was a choir member and deacon.

Miles loved to be around people, always teasing them in a kind-natured way.

He was proud of his family and loved taking them on annual beach vacations. He made the best cakes and pimento cheese.

He was as strong and structured as one would expect an Army colonel to be but was also lovable and affectionate, always offering a big hug and a "Love you, shug."

Mrs. Lynn was a retired employee of Bank of America with over 25 years of service.

A native of Duncan, SC, son of the late Charlie I. Robison and Mary Foster Robison, he was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. He worked at Southern Bleachery and then was the owner of S & S Mobile Homes for 39 years. He was an active lifelong member of Fairview Baptist Church, a member of the Taylors Masonic Lodge, a Hejaz Shriner and a member of V.F.W. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

Lead singer of the former Foothills Boys Quartet, Past President and Life Time Member (with perfect attendance) of the Tiger River Ruritan Club for over 40 years and a member of Apalache Baptist Church.

Frank Hilliard

May 17, 2015 - Frank Hilliard, 57, passed away from cancer on May 17.

Born in Charleston, SC, Frank was the son of Roy and Luna Hilliard (Greer, SC).

He is survived by his wife, Beth (Greer), daughter Rosemary (Boston, MA), son, Sam (Columbia, SC), sister June Ross and her husband, Doug (Greer), as well as numerous extended family members both in the Greenville and Atlanta, GA, areas.

Frank is also survived by his two rescue dogs, Zuke and Pearl who kept him company during his extended illness.

Frank embraced life. He attended the University of South Carolina where he became an avid Gamecock fan, often sparring with his many Clemson friends.

He worked 34 years in the mortgage finance industry, living in Chicago, Boston, Milwaukee and Greensboro.

Frank traveled extensively and enjoyed making contacts all over the country.

He had a passion for golf and spent his last years at Holly Tree Country Club in Simpsonville, SC.

Frank faced his illness with extreme bravery, documenting the challenges, good and bad over social network and in the public domain. He touched many souls, giving the rest of us hope that we can face our own mortality with such honesty and courage.

A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 1135 State Park Road in Greenville, on Saturday, May 23, 2:00 p.m. officiated by Rev. Richard Stower of Scituate, MA and Rev. Pat Jobe.

The family will receive visitors following the service at the Fellowship.

The family wishes to thank Delphine Foster, RN, and the rest of Open Arms Hospice staff and volunteers for their compassionate care.

Rev. Fred Hammett Brown

May 16, 2015 - Rev. Fred Hammett Brown, 85, of Greer, SC died Saturday, May 16, 2015 in Greenville, SC.

Son of Fred H. and Venity Hammett Brown, he was born into a loving Christian family on February 10, 1930 and grew up in the Cedar Spring Community of Spartanburg, SC.

He received a call to Gospel ministry while a member of Cedar Springs Baptist Church at the age of 20, and he went on to graduate from Mars Hill Junior College, Furman University, and Southern Baptist Seminary in pursuit of the Lord?s will for his life.

He enthusiastically pastored New Hope Baptist Church in Cross Anchor, SC, served as Associate Pastor of Southside Baptist Church in Spartanburg, SC, and pastored Northwood Baptist Church in Greer, SC and First Baptist Church in Dillon, SC before retiring and serving as Interim Pastor of Double Springs Baptist Church and of Mount Lebanon Baptist Church of Greer.

A member of Taylors First Baptist Church, he diligently loved others by excelling in many varied ministries both inside and outside the church, leaving a legacy of faithfulness to all that had the privilege of seeing Jesus shining through his life.

Tom graduated from both Michigan State and Bob Jones University.

He was employed by Chevrolet Manufacturing for 19 years, taught high school math and later provided IT support for BJU Press.

He enjoyed playing and building guitars, teaching ESL and technology classes, biking, hiking and reading.

He attended Heritage Bible Church of Greer.
