Greer restaurants prepared for busy New Year's Eve

The Great Bay Oyster House (GBOH) will celebrate its 10th anniversary (opened Dec. 31, 2004) on New Year’s Eve and Greer restaurants and bars are reporting a busy evening ahead for diners and revelers ringing in 2015.
Jason Clark, Restaurateur of the Year in the Upstate, has both his restaurants, BIN112 and The Strip Club 104 nearly completely booked. Bruce Rivera (Rivera’s) has created a New Year’s Eve menu. Denise and Chris VanderBerghe celebrate Wild Ace Pizza and Pub’s final New Year celebration at the Trade Street location. The new, widely anticipated opening of Wild Ace on Depot Street is scheduled in April.

The Wild Ace Pizza and Pub under construction at 103 Depot Street is taking shape.
The airplane tower-like structure, 36-feet-high, is apparent and steel beams outline the seating area of the restaurant.
Restaurants open on Christmas Day

Two greater Greer restaurant groups – Ovation Brands and Denny's – will have their restaurants open Christmas Eve and Christmas Day throughout the U.S.A.
Ovation Brands, headquartered in Greer, will have all its buffet-style restaurants open until 3:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve and 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Christmas Day. Ryan's, Fire Mountain, HomeTown Buffet, Country Buffet and Old Country Buffet will all offer a Christmas Day menu featuring oven roasted rotisserie-style turkey breast, honey glazed baked ham and carved roast beef.
Countdown is on for Greer Station Cafe opening on Thursday

The Greer Station Café is within two days of opening for breakfast on Thursday morning.
Owner Wendy Mitchell has had the former Southern Thymes Café sign removed and is replacing it with the restaurant’s new name.
Fireside reading of 'A Christmas Carol' is Thursday

A fireside reading of the Charles Dickens classic, "A Christmas Carol," will be held Thursday, Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the Stomping Grounds in downtown Greer.
Keith Challenger, a British-born author, speaker and entrepreneur, reintroduces the timeless story of Scrooge and friends. Challenger will tell the story of 19th century London in period costume and with special sound effects.
Plate 108 helps teach life skills to Five Oaks Academy students

Five Oaks Academy students, 6th - 8th grades, made a 4-course Thanksgiving dinner at Plate 108 last month.
The goal was to give them the full Thanksgiving experience, from food selection and preparation, to cleaning pots and pans after dinner. The best part, of course, was enjoying the fruits (and vegetables) of their labors for the four-course meal.

Reservations aren’t required but you might want to get in good with Wendy Mitchell before Thursday, Dec. 18 at 7 a.m.
That is the date Mitchell has set opening Greer Station Café, at 219 Trade Street.
