A significant winter storm will affect the region this evening and tonight.
A low pressure system over the Northwest Gulf of Mexico this evening, and then track quickly northeastward along the Carolina coast tonight. At the same time, colder air is expected to move down from the north. Precipitation will begin as rain in some areas outside the mountains, but is expected to change over to snow as the Intensity increases and the temperature cools into the evening hours. The snow is likely to become heavy at times during the evening hours as the low pressure system makes its closest pass by the area.
City Council will hold a public forum tonight at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the distribution of an estimated $263,617 in Community Development Block Grant funds and $83,905 in HOME affordable housing funds that will become available through Housing and Urban Development in July. An estimated $150,000 in block grant program income and $180,000 in HOME program are also expected to become available through the program year.
The 2015 Miss Greater Greer queens will be available for photographs and autographs at a fundraiser at Pizza Inn, 115 W. Wade Hampton Blvd., Thursday from 5-8 p.m.

Tanner Stevens, 18 months, was fined two cookies for parking his convertible on the sidewalk at the entrance to the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce. Tanner, son of Scott and Lindsay Stevens, is often seen riding downtown in one of his vehicles.
The Stevenses visited Wild Ace Pizza for dinner Thursday night and Tanner parked in front of the chamber’s office, at 111 Trade Street, since it was after business hours.
About 2,400 cans of Chicken of the Sea brand 12-ounce chunk light tuna in water is being recalled in South Carolina and other Southeastern states because the product may contain metal pieces from a broken piece of equipment used to produce the tuna, posing a possible choking hazard, according to the company.
The product was distributed Dec. 3 - 10, 2014, has the UPC code 0 4800001164 0, product code 9R5BE SCAFB and best by date of 11/5/17. The UPC code (also known as bar code) is found on the side of the can, and the best by date and product code are imprinted on the bottom of the can.
